![]() It’s not suitable to describe a homosexual relationship as the stereotype of the Italian-American gangster is mostly against gay marriage and gay rights. ![]() Some people may spell the word as “Gumar.” However, the correct colloquial spelling is “Goomar.” It’s also incorrect to use the term to describe a person’s girlfriend or wife it only refers to a man’s mistress. Otjer examples of terms from the Sopranos adopted into English include “gabagool” and “Goomba.” ![]() Since the show was popular, many of those neologisms have stuck in modern English use. The show introduced many Italian-American terms to its audience. “Goodfellas.” The neologism also gained popularity through the hit 90s TV series “The Sopranos.” The word “goomar entered mainstream use in English with the introduction of Italian-American gangster films by directors like Martin Scorsese and his 1990 crime drama classic. It comes from the Italian word “comare,” which refers to a person’s godmother or someone that takes care of them physically and emotionally. The Italian expression “goomar” originates from the old Italian language as a colloquialism for your side-piece or mistress. If the wife finds out, you’ll end up in big trouble, but she never has to know.” “Listen, you can have a goomar, but you have to keep it on the low. “How is a man supposed to stay faithful to one woman his entire life? If it weren’t for my goomars, I would have left my wife years ago.” “If an Italian-American guy tells you he’s going to see his goomar, it means he’s visiting his girlfriend. I don’t want you back in this house ever again! Do you hear me?” “If you’re going to your goomar, then stay over there. She was all over me every chance she could get.” “Friday night was for the wives, but Saturdays was for the girlfriends. I have to call him if I see her leave the house.” “Tommy was going out with his goomar tonight and told me to keep an eye on his wife. He would leave her destitute and on the street as punishment. If the goomar did get out of place, the mobster would usually threaten her with physical violence. The goomar would know that she was the mobster’s side-piece, and she would never interrupt or interfere with the mobster’s family or visit him at home or at work. Mobsters would often have separate lives from their wives, where they would invite their goomars to bars and let them mingle with each other. She waits on him hand and foot, and in turn, the mobster rewards her by paying her bills and buying her jewelry and clothes. She must please him sexually, massage him, and cook for him. A “ goomar” is a mobster’s girlfriend, and she serves the mobster’s beck and calls. The expression “ goomar” is an American-Italian word for “ mistress” or “ side-piece.” It’s a phrase appearing in many Italian-American gangster movies like “ Casino,” “ Goodfellas,” and others. Did one of the characters on the Sopranos call a woman a “ goomar?” Are you wondering what it means? This post unpacks the meaning and origin of this expression. ![]()

![]() Even when the statistics flowed passed and a lot of the choices were not impacting the story at all, it seemed. Weird how quickly Mira went to that annoying person that I could not help but like, to someone that I could like but still was too quick to agitate. Shitbot is now Awesomebot and I am not even mad. Again, my playthrough might be different than yours, but when it came to getting down to the sewers and they split up, it felt like there was a foundation for that to build on from the previous book. You know what relationship I did believe though? Hanna and her girlfriend (whose name escapes me at the moment). I feel like it could have been treated a bit better.Īnd if that's the case, I'll have to start over and start getting a much better relationship going with Likho. In one way, I can understand that being more with the rebels is allowing Kian to relax and allow his true self to 'come out' in a sense, but in another. Then to find out that he's not really interested in women and then ending the game and having that screen come up with how folks react toward his personal life. The way I thought of it was that I had no idea whether she was who she said she was(which turned out true but not in the super-secret spy way I envisioned), the whole emotional point was rushed, and if what she felt was real, I'd want to know who she was and develop a relationship on a real level. Even though Kian, from what I remember does not notice women in such a way of attractiveness, it seems odd with that choice considering Anna from Book 2. In Dreamfall Chapters, there's Anna (whom Kian may accept the kiss or back away from it) and then Enu, with her flirtations. To me, in Dreamfall, Kian and April Ryan had sort of this attraction to one another as well as respect. ![]() Which is interesting but at the same time. Next bit, depending on folks played when it comes to Kian Alvane so it might be different for others' who might have kissed Anna, it seems that, speaking with Enu (again, my playthrough so results may vary) Kian is gay. It feels like Saga might be April Ryan 'reincarnated' and her Mother, which I am spit-balling here, is the Guardian of the Balance, of whoever that person is to be that balances out Arcadia from Mercuria and vice-versa. ![]() I liked the way the drawings little Saga drew were of April Ryan's adventures in "The Longest Journey" but I felt like it took up way too much time in the beginning. Okay, so right from the very beginning of Book 3, the player got the little Saga walking around looking for these drawings which is incredibly difficult to find with the game's way of interacting with the environment. This topic is going to reveal MAJOR SPOILERS so. So I just finished Book 3 and there are SO many questions plus the feeling of brevity in it that needs to be addressed. ![]() ![]() If you are not satisfied with your admission outcome, you can request an appeal of the decision by emailing the Admissions team at If following your appeal you are not satisfied with the outcome you may submit a formal report to the University via the Online Report Form. Due to Mandel’s magnificent penmanship the narrative has now turned full circle. Despite his death in the opening chapter, Arthur remains a central and defining figure throughout, drawing all characters and events together his list of treasured things parallels the list of things at the beginning of the novel that have been lost since the world ended. In contrast to The Travelling Symphony’s message of creation and hope, the prophet as founder of the cult, is an extremist and fundamentalist, representing fanaticism and destruction the sense of powerlessness that he creates in his coerced followers is echoed throughout the novel in the impact of the pandemic. Lear alienates himself from Cordelia, the daughter who loves him the most Arthur, too, is filled with regret as he realises that he has been chasing fame and fortune rather than focusing on love and friendship. Their self-absorption results in them discarding and hurting those most dear to them it is only when facing death that they come to realise the futility of their lives and ambitions, and experience true regret for their actions. Arthur, playing King Lear, is uncannily like him they are both obsessed with power and ego, constantly seeking affirmation from others. The characters are well-defined and authentic it is through the sub-plots that Mandel allows one insight into their internal conflicts. An evocative and tangible sense of urgency and panic is intertwined with tendrils of hope for the future. It shocks, it nudges one’s conscience, it propels one to consider one’s own mortality and painful nostalgia for a ‘lost world’ but it never shrouds the truth in platitudes or pretensions. ![]() ![]() It is harrowing and haunting in its tragic and brutal integrity of reality whilst synchronously portraying the majestic beauty of all that mankind treasures: human interaction, the virtuosity of the multitudinous guises of artistic performance, planet Earth and its opulent diversity of flora and fauna. One is enraptured from beginning to end with imagery, action and suspense exploding like kaleidoscopic fireworks in this narrative spanning the most woeful spectrum of human experience: loss, oppression, regret, isolation, mortality, terror, confusion, and a myriad of potent emotional experiences that never fail to elicit a lasting interaction. Such is also highlighted in the reference pertaining to a quotation from ‘Star Trek’: “…because survival is insufficient …” regret and searching for that which has been lost are dominant themes. Written in the third person narrative with numerous flashbacks and flash forwards, it is undoubtedly a dystopian masterpiece that not only entertains but prompts repeated reflection upon one's perception of the true meaning of life. ![]() This post-apocalyptic novel is incredibly and powerfully complex with parallels steadfastly embedded in Shakespeare's tragedy ‘King Lear’, Miranda's work of science fiction ‘Station Eleven’ and one’s own recent experience of the Covid pandemic each section is deftly woven into the next, thus ensuring that we never lose sight of the narratives running alongside each other. ![]() ![]() ![]() It also did nice things to define the whip coral's polyps. The "Sunset" filter brings out quite a bit more detail in this little guy's body, especially the textures of his pectoral fin and his see-through skin. These fish are much smaller than the photo suggests (1.5 inches, maybe) and very, very skittish, so you really don't even get to see the detail on the fish until you're looking at the photo later. This is great because I could flip through all those painful Unlucky Button results without ever having to wait. Topaz is sufficiently snappy that there's really no time to even tab out of the window. Have I mentioned, though, that Topaz Detail is fast? I've jettisoned plugins in the past because the processing times, even to render previews, were unbearably slow. Until then, it's more of an "Unlucky Button": you're much better off flipping through the included presets and tweaking them to suit your photo and your preferences. I was once taught that "just because the dial goes to 10 doesn't mean you should turn the dial all the way to 10." I think the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button could stand a taste of that medicine. Maybe it just wasn't my lucky day, but even after some twenty rolls of the dice, I couldn't get a result that looked better than this: The one "feature" of Topaz Detail that I really can't recommend is the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. Also, I had never noticed all the parasites in this guy's mouth before just now! Maybe I'll go back for another pass and mask in just the eel? What do you think?Īnd how about this scorpionfish? Using just the "Overall Detail Medium" filter preset once again really brought out the texture in its skin and eyes. I applied "Overall Detail Medium," which I thought defined the wrinkling in the eel's skin nicely, but I'm not sure about the increased definition in the background. So, moving on to some of those "subtle but powerful" adjustments I was talking about earlier, here's a shot of a ribbon eel that could stand to be a little more crisp. The reds came out a little over saturated for my taste, but overall, I dig the effect-it's so much punchier. I had been satisfied with the sharpness and detail in this image, but applying the "Spring" preset really brought out the, well, detail in the Christmas tree worm's "branches" (which are actually its gills/mouth). So the first photo I loaded up was this macro image of a Christmas tree worm. ![]() Shown below are the "Before" pics mouse over each to see the processing I applied using Topaz Detail. The program includes a number of presets, which I found to be a great starting point, and at times were all I needed. Somewhat miraculously, Topaz Detail manages to increase sharpness without creating edge artifacts, halos, or significant noise. With increased microcontrast comes increased perception of sharpness in an image. To get into detail (ha ha) for a minute, Detail works by tweaking microcontrast, which is the contrast between adjacent pixels (as opposed to the global contrast of the entire image). Photoshop CS, Photoshop CC, Photoshop Elements.Though I used it with Photoshop, the list of supported programs is pretty diverse: So Topaz Detail, like the other Topaz plugins, is not a standalone product, but rather interfaces with quite a few common photo-processing programs. It's fun to periodically go back and re-process old photos. I was pleasantly surprised! Detail made subtle, but often powerful adjustments to my photos that definitely increased their impact. Curious to find what it could do for my stuff, I dug up a handful of photos I had previously deemed "finished" and ran them through Detail. There are lots of Topaz Detail reviews floating around, but none (so far as I could find, anyway) specifically catering to underwater photos. I also have a confession to make: I did this once before with Topaz Detail. Yesterday, I gave it another chance. I have a tendency to download photo processing plugin trials, try them once, and then forget all about them until long after the trial expires. Topaz Detail for Underwater Photos: A Review ![]() |
